2025: A Celebration by the Community, for the Community
1–4 May 2025
Clarens Art Festival Website
Clarens, where art breathes life into the village, has long been a sanctuary for creativity. Its awe-inspiring landscapes have inspired generations of artists, from the renowned Pierneef and Gregoire Boonzaaier to local icons like Hannetjie de Clercq, Martin Wessels, Richard Rennie, Lyn Hoyle, Simon Addy, and Peter Bonney. Today, the legacy continues, with nine thriving galleries showcasing the brilliance of the region’s artistic soul.
The idea of an art festival in Clarens felt inevitable—a natural extension of the village’s creative spirit. For years, the concept lingered in conversations over dinners and lunches among local visionaries. After the stillness of the COVID era, the community yearned for a way to reignite the village’s vibrant energy. By 2022, that dream became a reality. Clarens evolved into more than just a charming destination; it emerged as a living, breathing hub of South African art.
The Clarens Art Festival is far more than an event; it’s a collaborative effort powered by the heart of the community. With contributions from artists, performers, curators, technical teams, and local businesses, the festival embodies unity and pride across Afrikaans, English, and Sotho cultures. This event is a tribute to Clarens’ unique character and artistic heritage, transforming the village into a stage for creativity and connection.
Join us for the 2025 Clarens Art Festival from 1–4 May, a celebration of traditional and contemporary art forms that tell the stories of South Africa’s diverse voices.
